Bertram Gilpatrick (November 1, 1923 in West Park, New York - August 30, 1956; age 32) was an American-born banker and inhabitant of Hopper Island. Together with his wife Rose, Gilpatrick arrived on the island on September 27, 1947. Together with Sherman Hopper, Cary Castenada and Joshua Hunter, the Gilpatricks became part of the Pacific Friends Company that governs the island. In 1956, Bertram Gilpatrick was the first person to die on the island. He was found dead on the beach, cause of death unknown.
